It was reported in Napier on the 22nd ult., that Sergeant Carkeek, of the Armed Constabulary, son of Mr Carkeek, the late Inspector of Customs at Wellington, is missing. He left Tapuaeharuru with despatches, and accompanied by a native named Kepa. The latter, who belongs to the Uriwera tribe, obtained a medal for brave conduct, on the West Coast. He has been heard to threaten Carkeek for reporting him, and the general surmise is that he shot Carkeek and then deserted to his tribe.
