Tallow is fluctuating. Bates closed at about the same as last month. In the money market new loans have been applied for by the Italian Government, to the amount of £5,000,000 sterling ; by the Metropolitan Board of "Work 3, £2,500,000; by the Turkish Government, £12,000,000; for Indian railways, to the amount of nearly £2,000,000. The following dividends have been declared : — Trust Agency of Australia, Is per share ; Otago and Southland Investment Company, 10 per cent.; Scottish Australian Mining, Company, 6 per cent. The Board, of Trade returns for October show a decline of 2\ per cent. The Bank rate of discount remains unchanged. Money is plentiful. Consols are firm at 92£ ex. dividend. Mercantile failures have been numerous. New Zealand fives, 1891, are at 92£; ditto sixes, 1891, March and September, 105. In the export market shipments to New Zealand show a decrease of £28,555. The Jane Van Galen has been chartered at Eotterdam to load 9000 cases for Dunedin. The quantity of wool catalogued to December 2nd was 108,789 bales, among which are the following :— Sydney, 26,261 bales; Victoria, 23,249; New Zealand, 11,850 ; Adelaide, 3,223 ; Cape of Good Hope, 41,000 : leaving 2,400 bales still for disposal. The sales opened with a slight advance, which was not, however, maintained. Prices remain firm, at about the average rates of previous sale. There is a good demand for flax at slightly lower rates, owing to a decline in Manilla hemp. Prices of fine long and clean samples, £52; fair, £42; partly clean, £33.
