)The Government have taken possession of Samana Bay as a naval depot for
the "West Indies, on which they intend to erect heavy fortifications. A fatal collision has occurred on the Pacific Railway. Eleven persons were killed, and twenty more or less seriously injured. Frauds in the New York Custpm-house have been discovered to the enormous amount of 8,000,000d01. The President's message is expected to urge the immediate resumption of specie payment.
