SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
Adelaide, Jan. 11. The corn market is firm. The Assembly adopted Mr > Caw's resolutions affirming the desirability of an Australasian Commercial Federation. Jan. 15. The general topic of discussion is the defeat of the Corporation Loan Bill yesterday in the Legislative Assembly. They intended to consolidate the present over-, draft, and issue debentures at long dates instead. A monster memorial is being prepared for presentation to Parliament with respect to the action of the City Council in reference to .the Eastern Market, and praying that the market clauses now in force in "England may be introduced here. The Savins^' Bank tender for the "Northern Territory bonds, 6 per cent., has been accepted at from £5 7s to £6 Is premium, according to date. The Angaston post-office and store was burned down last night. Jan. 17. The troops at present stationed here will leave in a fortnight or three weeks' time. The South Australian Gas Company offer to ligrht the city at £6 10s per lamp, and the Council will take the matter into consideration at their next meeting. The length of time the streets have been without gas seems to have brought the company to reasonable terms. { Two cases are reported of swagsmen j dying in the bush from the late extreme heat. The corn market is very firm : wheat in parcels is selling at 4a 9d ; flour is quoted at £11 10s to £13. * Jan. 18. In the Legislative Council Mr Baker's motion, censuring the Government for the conduct of the Chief Secretary in regard to the postal tenders, was carried j in an amended form, by striking out the name of the Chief Secretary. The carrying of this resolution is likely to lead the Government to consider their position. In the Legislative Assembly on the Government motion for £1,500 as compensation to Mr Barfcley, late solicitor of the Land Titles office, an amendment was carried that he be reinstated in his position. j The eclipse of the moon was scarcely visible last night, owing to the cloudy state of the atmosphere. Mr R. B. Andrews, M.P., has been | appointed Crown Solicitor, and has consequently resigned his seat in the Assembly. Sales of wheat have been effected at 55., at which price there is a good demand, both for export and milling purposes. Flour is quoted at from £12 to £13.
