A wag, passing by the house which had been almost consumed by fire, inquired whose it was. Being told that it was a hatter's, "Ah," said he, "then the loss will be felt!" An Irishman, travelling in a sfcreet that was paved, was startled by a dog with a threatening growl. The traveller attempted to pull up one of the pavingstones to throw at hi n, but it was fast. "Arrab," said Paddy, "what a fine country is this, where stones are tied and dogs let loose !"
