Sydney, Dec. 29. Another evening paper will be published from and after Monday next. The schooner Hannah has been wrecked at Port Macquarie. Two officers of the squadron, who were left behind, have Bailed in the Tasmania, to join their ship at Hobart Town. The Horatio Sprague, from California, 6th November, brings 25,800 quartersacks flour, 800 sacks wheat. She reports the Nymphe for Sydney, cleared the same day, with 18,640 quarter-sacks flour. The latest quotations are— Wheat, I*lo dol. to 1-57 dol. ; flour, 4doLto 525 dol. ; barley, 90c. to ldoL Private advices from California report the Crown and Anna, loading breadstuffs for Sydney, and the Mary and Edith for Auckland. The Marmion and Adele have been chartered to bring lumber. The Californian news has depressed the market for breadstuffs. The markets generally are very quiet. Dec. 30. Mr Moriarty has been appointed Undersecretary to the Lands department. Mr Frazer, manager of the Commercial Bank at Inverell, has been killed by a fall from his horse. Tenders have been accepted for 58,000 New Zealand Treasury bills, at par to 10s premium. The Earl of Belmore and Major Blackall visited Cook's landing place to-day. Dec. 31. A portion of the temporary town-hall was burned last night, and a quantity of valuable plans were destroyed. The Malta takes 11,7890zs of gold, and 40,000 soys. The sugar sale to-day showed a decline of £1 per ton. The markets have closed very dull. The Sprague's cargo of flour is unsold. Jan. 1. I A company has been formed for the purpose of opening up the mail route via California and the Pacific Eailroad. They intend making a beginning in March on a small scale, and have chartered two of the A.S.N. Company's steamers, which they will run from Sydney to San^ Francisco, calling at Auckland, Tahiti, and Honolulu
