THE PROPOSED POSTAL SERVICE.
(to the editob of the times.) Sir, — It must be difficult at times to i find topics to interest the readers of a ' newspaper in this gay province, to wit, having to fall back on gastronomic subjects, the tautological introduction by a writer oftwo too many to's,orsomeapparent want of meaning, occasioned by improvised, punctuat'on ; but you have a subject now of deep importance to the community. What do- "the happy family" and the electors of Carnpbelltown think of their pet Maeandrew now ? He is prepared to recommend the vote of a subsidy to the steamers, provided they make Port Chalmers the jirst port of call ; we, inhabitants of Invercargill, having consequently the pleasure of looking forward to a possible delay of five days in receiving our English letters. Hurrah ! for re-union and Southland's expectations ! It strikes me very agreeably that those who cut the birch will find themselves rather sore about the back before they are much older. — Yours, &c, Looker-on. Invercargill, 18th December, 1869.
