Hobabt Town, Dec. 6th. The Government have despatched a party to cut a track and open the country between Fingal and Waterhouse. An inquest is proceeding on the body of a boy found dead near town under suspicious circumstances. Great preparations are being made for the regatta to be held during the visit of the Flying Squadron. Dec. 7th. The mayor and aldermen have presented the Premier, as ex-mayor, with an address, complimenting him on the performance of his duties, and thanking him for the gift of his gold chain. The Government has contracted for the erection of a bridge over the Tomahawk, at Waterhouse, and for a road to the diggings, to be finished by Christmas, in anticipation of the transport ©f heavy machinery thither. Dec. Bth. The regatta has been postponed on account of the weather, which has been very boisterous. The municipal elections take place in the different towns throughout the colony to-morrow. There are only four condidates for the three seats as aldermen for Hobart Town. The barque Seymour, from Port Seymour, has brought here the crew and passengers — fifteen in all — of the barque Isabella, which, while guano-loading, was wrecked off Cape Barren. They had come over to Port Seymour in the ship's boats, and lia<3 saved nothing but a little biscuit, on which they subsisted whilst making for land. Dec. 9th. The regatta to-day was only a partial success. Postponed from the previous day, only four races were pulled for when the rain set in and compelled an adjournment until to-morrow. The municipal elections are exciting a great deal of public interest. Dec. 10th. The regatta concluded to-< Jay. The Governor and Mrs Dv Cane were present. The weather still continues unsettled. LAUNCESToy, Dec. 10th. The Horticultural Show was one of the best ever held. Mr George Gibbon's imported Clydesdale stallion General has been found dead.
