Beloved Brethren united in the Faith of the jtaspel in all Countries, — It is now Nine years since the Evangelical llh'ance issued their first invitation to Christians ihrougbout the world to set apart the first week )f the New Year for United Prayer on agreed lubiects. The invitation met with cordial and reneral acceptance, and the January Week of Dniversal Prayer has become an institution lonoured and devoutly observed in the different Capitals, and principal Towns and Villages of Protestant Countries, and of all other Lands in yhich there are Christians. Each year has jhewn an increase in the number of those who irith "one accord make common supplication," md has also funnelled evidence that Ck><3 still »raciously hears the prayers of his suppliants, md sends answers in manifold forms of blessing. Fellow Christians. The commencement oi mother year approaches. To those of us who iame the name of Christ, and who may be spared » welcome its advent, solemn duties and responsibilities will belong. The Church and the World remain as ever in direct antagonism, and the poice of the Captain of our Salvation will call as to the field of service and of conflict for the lefence and extension of His Kingdom. Prayer, United Prayer, is one of our mightiest weapons ; md mindful of the " times of refreshing," so jften enjoyed, and in so many places throughout the earth during the Week of Prayer, and remembering the sure promise of Q-od's Word, ure earnestly invite yon to renew fervent and united supplication before the mercy seat of our reconciled God and Father in Christ Jesus, during the first week of the ensuing new year. " I will that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands without wrath and doubting."—! Tim. ii. 8. Prayer for Kings and all in authority ; for the rich and poor of the land ; for the increase of righteousness ; and for universal peace; for countries where religious liberty is enjoyed, where the light of truth has entered, and where recent events claim special attention. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5. Families. Prayer for Parents ; for children at home and abroad; for servants j for Schools, Colleges, and Universities. THURSDAY, JANUARY 6. Chbistian Union. Prayer for the Divine Blessing to rest on the Assembly of Christians from all countries to be held this year in New York. FRIDAY, JANUARY 7. The Chbistian Chtjbch. Prayer for all "Ministers of the Word"; for all Missionary and Religious Societies ; for the removal of false doctrine ; and for the revival of religion, and the increase of Christian Love among all true believers. Taking advantage of this circular, they cordially and affectionately invite Christians throughout the world to set apart TUESDAY, JUNE 7TH. 1870, for earnest and united prayer for the conversion, holiness, and usefulness of their children. l^P° YOU ARE EARNESTLY REQUESTED to obtain for this Circular Invitation an insertion in Local Newspapers, Magazines, and other periodicals, and to promote the holding oi United Prayer Meetings during the week in your Neighborhood ; also TO COMMUNICATE TO THE SECRETARIES of the British Branch (7, Adam Street, Strand, London), any circumstance of interest arising out of the observance.
