NORTHERN NEWS.
We take the following from the Otago Daily Times : — "WELLrprGTOiy, November 17th. Dr. Featherston was to-day sworn in as a member of the Ministry. At a preliminary meeting held to-day for the purpose, a Committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements for entertaining him at a public breakfast on the day of his departure. A subscription list for a testimonial to him has also been opened. Tetiot, November 20th. The Island Block has been sold. Mr Clarke purchased 2100 acres for £3600. Napier, November 21st. The Supreme Court sat on the 18th, when a man named Williams was sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude for . horse-stealing. Mr Ormond has gone to examine all the Defence posts between Napier, Lake Taupo, and Tapuaeharuru.
