The dipper barque Prospector, belonging to this Port, arrived in harbor yesterday, aftec a splendid passage from the Mauritius of 33 days. On arrival her commander, Captain Black, kindly suppled us with a file of Mauritius payers to the 9th ult,, and reports that the schooner Annie Brown was loading at Port Louis for Otago, for orders. Since the Prospector left here, on the 19th of March, she has made the circuit of the southern hemisphere. Her passage to Valparaiso, with passengers, occupied 29 days. At that port she lay for some time, waiting for a freight, which was ultimately obtained, and she left for the River Plate on the 28th of May, with a cargo of wheat, flour, and walnuts. Off the Horn, Captain Black reports having experienced delightful weather, rounding the Cape witli royals set. Monte Video wa3 reached on the 29fch of June, when she got orders to proceed to Buenos Ayres, where she discharged her cargo, and left in ballast for the Mauritius on the 10th of August. Arrived at Port Louis on the 9th of September, loaded her present cargo, consisting of 300 tons of sugar, and left on the morning of the 10th ult. Experienced S.E. winds until reaching lat. 4Ode£. S., when westerly and northerly gales were encountered, witb very high teas. On the sth inst*nt, while running under close reefed topsails and foresail before a westerly gale, the barometer being at 28ieg. 30min., Ja tremendous sea broke on board, carrying away Jargf- portion of bulwarks on both sides, smashed all her boats to atoms, and stove in part of main deck in port waist, besides doing other damage. The deck was immediately secured with tarred canvas and scupper nails to prevent water getting into the hold. The Solander was passed at 2 p.m. on Thursday last, and Dog Island the same evening. S.W. winds then prevailed to arrival at the Heads at 8.30 a.m. yesterday, when she signalled for a tug, and the Geelong proceeded down and brought her up to a discharging berth. Her cargo, consisting of 10,616 bags sugar and 2 oases wine, is consigned to her agents, Messrs Cargiiiu and M'Lean. — Otago Daily Times, Nov. 13. In the telegraphic summary of English news published last issue a mistake occurred in the name of the "vessel overdue in England from Few Zealand, and which had been almost given

up at Lloyd's, insurance premiums having risen to 60 guineas. In the telegram the name was iven as " Matoua" or " Matona." The name, we believe, should have been the MatoaKa, which sailed from Lyttelton on the 13th of May with a large general cargo, cMpfly wool, and a number oi passengers. The following were the passenger^. — Cabin, Mr and Mrs Hancock, Misses Hancock (2), Mr and Mrs Hoskyns, and three Children, Mr and Mrs Henley and child, Rev. Mr and Mrs Grant and four children, Misses KennaWay (2) and servant, Dr and Mrs Iliffe, Mr and Mrs Wilson an I two children, Mr and Mrs Alison and six ehiUren Dr Kvan«, Mess-s Brown Coup, Pusey, and Cooksev.— Timaru Herald.
