RIVERTON.

(jPBOM A COBBESFONDENT.) November 1, 1869. A crowded meeting of miners and others was held in the Court-house here on the 30th ult. The following resolutions were unanimously passed : — 1. "That Section 4, clause VIIL, of the Eegulationa be not held applicable to quartz reefs." 2. " That the Otago Goldfields Regulations, so far as they relate to mining for gold in quartz claims, should be adopted in this Province, and that the miners present request his Honor the Superintendent to give effect to these resolutions as soon as possible." A memorial was then signed by 52 miners. I may remark that a much larger number of signatures could have been obtained if time had permitted to forward the memorial to the Longwood, as at a meeting held there on the 29th, the diggers were all strongly in favor of Tfhe proposed alterations. Our worthy Warden has written to his Honor, strongly recommending the changes, and it is hoped here that as the matter very materially affects the mining interests — even to the degree of " life or death," — ; his Honor will immediately give legal force to the proposed alterations by at once gazetting them.
