Buller, have enderl in her becoming a total wreck near Kocks Point. The last in formation which was published with regard to her was that she had been safely beached in that neighborhood without' much apparent damage. After she got ashore itappears that two diggers were fortunate or ingenious enouah to gat: hap ad<x>t,antl tkoy niade the chain fast to a rock a little distance from the shore, while thsy proceeded to the Karamea for • tucker,' their intention being to sail'her to' Nelson or the Buller. They got the ' tucker,' and returned, but returned to find their supplies unnecessary. In the interval the Pearl had broken adrift a*ain, and had gone ashore at a place where the beach" ■>ras less favorable to her^ preservation. They f»un ! her very materially bilged, and the mast ove.-boa-d, so they naturally abandoned their project of sailing her, and, no doubt, with their ' tucker, 1' are "pursuing some enterprise more certain than that of salvage."- — Westport Times. REMABKiBiE Case of Salvage. —On Tuesday morning lust, about one a.m., the weather, being thick, the schooner B. U. Cameron, of Lyttelton, bound from Dunedin to Hokitika with general cargo, ran on shore on the south-east end of the Sandspit. The crew immediately took to their boat, and proceeded round the back of the spit to obtain assistance from the men engaged on the lighthouse, hoping to obtain the use of a whaleboat and a kedge to haul the schooner off the next tide. On reaching the site of the intended lighthouse, which they did about- seven o'clock, the crew of the schooner were disappointed in obtaining the assistance they required, and they proceeded to haul their own boat over the spit in order to regain their vessel, and do the best they could to save her. On approaching the spot where the vessel went on shore, they found -she had disappeared, and they concluded she had floated off with the tide and foundered. When the ves3el was abandoned, the foresail and two jibs were left standing, and having floated off with the tide, the canvas left upon the schoonerbrought her round the apit, and into Totaranui, where she went ashore. The G'engarry, also from Dunedin, which taken refuge in Totaranui, passed the E. xfc Cameron at no great distance on her way down the bay, and saw her run iv to Totaranui without ■ suspecting that no person was on board. On her going on shore, the crew of the Glengarry put off to her assistance, and then found how matters were. The schooner was got off, and brought on to Nelson, where also her own crew have found their way. An inquiry into the matter is being held. —Nelson Examiner, October 9. - The bran new composite clipper ship James Nicol Fleming, belonging to Messrs Patrick Henderson and Co.'s line of Clyde packets, put in an appearance off the Heads at an early hour yesterday morning, and signalled for a tug. Pilot Stevens boarded her about nine o'clock, and the subsidised steam tug Geelong proceeded outside and towed the vessel up to an anchorage off Deborah B.iy in the afternoon. The James Nicol Fleming, now on her maiJen voyage, was built by Messrs Robert Duncan and Co., at their building yards, Port Gka^'ow. She is composite built to her topsides which are of von, her bottom being covered with pure copper, which being of a bright red color, gives her all the appearance at a distance of nn iron ship. She is a very fine model, her outline bearing a close resemblance to that "f ihe William Davie, of the same fleet. — Otago Daily Timex, Oct. 25
