Another eruption of Tongariro took place recently. The Wanganui Herald, on the authority of an eye witness at Murimotu, 25 miles in a direct line from Tongariro, describes the eruption as follows *. — A.t half-past six o'clock in the evening the sky became oyercaat with clouds of smoke of an inky blackness, which completely enveloped the mountain of longariro in total darkness. The volcano continued smoking for half-an-hour. A shock waß then felt as though an explosion had taken place, and Tongariro belched forth from itß cone a brilliant flame, which illuminatpd the sky for miles round, and presented an appearance, as it gradually died away, similar to a glorious sunset, it lasted about two hours. The West Coast Times announces that Mr C. S. Button, solicitor, v about to return to and settle in Tasmania.
