RIFLE MATCH.

DUNEDIN VOLUNTEER ABTILLEBY AGAINST

HON. ABTILLERY, LONDON. (From the Daily Times).

By the last mail the scores made by the No. 2 company of the Honourable Artillery Company, London, in the match with the Dunedin Artillery Corpa, hare come to hand. The match was arranged by one of the members of the latter company now on a visit to England, tod was to have been shot in July last, but owing to the inclemency of the weather it was postponed on the part of the Dunedin company to last month. The result is a victory for our local team by 91 points. From the particulars appended to their scores, we find that 1 the London team were afflicted by oar own

i- particular weakness, viz , a Btro 1 j wind i at the longer ranges ; but thi« is almost c compensated for by the fact that some of 1 " Ours " had not fired a shot since the ; end of last season. r The conditions, as we have before • stated, were sevea shots at ranges of 200, 500, and 600 yards, Hythe position • throughout, G-overnmenfc rifles and | ammunition, and no sunshades, &?. The 1 individual scores of the Dunedin team are not high, but the average, 51.9, is j passable for a company match at the L commencement of the season. As will ; be seen, the highest scorer on the side of p 59, and on the other Private Hamilton with 52. Captain and Adjutant Atkinson looked after the English team's interest here, and Mr F. S. Sargood officiated for the Dunedin Company at home. It waa arranged, as we formerly mentioned, that the losing team should present the winning one with a set of 10 silver cups as a memento of the occasion, which we are glad to hear, is likely to be an annual one ; and we have no doubt that our men will prize them accordingly. Below are the scores : —

"While on the subject of shooting we may mention that it is likely that a match will be arranged between 20 of the Otago Volunteers and 20 picked from all Scotland, similar to the International Tffiatcn at WtntDledwns — Wt^w^-giKoa-A0,., underßcana ran* » vu««x«» & ~-.. tu i ..«. to Lord Elcho by the outgoing mail, and ; that, if possible, the match will come off during the present season.
