PRESBYTERY OF SOUTHLAND.
The quarterly meeting of this court was held on the 13th inst. Present — Revs. A. H. Stobo (moderator), Andrew Stevens, Thomas Alexander, and James Clark (Ministers) ; Messrs John Mur- : docb, John Allison, and Peter Campbell (Elders). The Rev. A. B. Arnott being "present, was associated with the Presby:i tery. K . . Mr Siobo reported that the congregatioD at Wallacetown could not promise i at present to contribute to the Sustentation Fund, in the event of Winton and Forest Hill being disjoined, more than £130 per annum. The Presbytery agreed to draw up a memorial and circulate it in Winton, Forest Hill, and the adjoining pastoral country, with a view to get them sanctioned as a ministerial charge, and also ascertain what amount would be contributed to the Sustentation Fund in the event of being sanctioned. A memorial from Switzers and Upper Mataura was read, asking the Presbytery to take the necessary steps to get these districts sanctioned as ministerial charges. A subscription list accompanied the memorial, showing that a sum of £230 was promised to support a minister. The Presbytery agreed to take the usual steps to give effect to the prayer of the memorial. The Presbytery agreed to ask the Church Extension Committee to send the ' Rev. Mr Morrison to Switzers for three months. The financial statements of the various congregations were read. The total amount collected in Invercargill for the last year, was £817 Is 2d; Long Bush, &c, £212 9s Lid; Riverfcon, £255 5s lid; Wallacetown, £371 9s sd. The Presbytery agreed to recommend to Deacons Courts to charge a proclamation fee of twenty -five shillings, to be paid to the treasurer of the congregation, and applied towards the supplement of the officiating minister, when not in receipt of supplement of £50 or upwards. The Presbytery adjourned to meet on Tuesday, the 4th of January next, at eleven o'clock.
