The Daily Times of the Bth inst. reports :— A rather better feeling hag been manifested in the markets to-day, and it is probable that business will improve c littie during the next few days. The sales occurring have been chiefly of trade parcels, but one or two better lines have been noted. The timber, ex Eucalyptus, from Hobart Town, and ex Engelbert, are reported as placed at satisfactory rates. Kerosene has beem moved in a good-sized line at 2s 3d ; coarse salt, at. 82s 6d ; good congous, in email packages, at well- sustained rates ; and bulk beers, at rates not named. The produce markets are without change. Excepting for current requirements, no operations in flour have been going forward. Good milling wheats have been placed at 6s 3d. Barley is quiet. The few oats available for delivery in town are held for last-named rates. In the auction marts there is no business of any moment reported as having taken place. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report, for the week ending the 2ud inst., as follows : — Fat Cattle — None yarded ; we sold privately 20 head very prime bullocks, heavy weights, at £14 ; best beef is worth 30s ; middling, 25s per 100 lbs. Fat. Sheep — The market continues fully supplied with inferior quality ; we quote prime mutton, 3d per lb, at which price we have sold 500. Store Cattle — Quotations are, bullocks, 3 years old and upwards, £5 10s to £6 ; mixed herds, £4 10s to £5. Store Sheep — We have heard of no transactions in this description of stock, and quote 4, 6, and 8-tooth. wethers, 6s 6d to 7s ; ewes, 2, 4, and 6-tooth, 7s 6d to 8s each ; mixed hoggetts, 10s to lls per pair. Country Sales — At Mr Thomas Lees, Lawrence, dairy cows brought from £6 to £11 ; mixed stores, £4 to £5 ; steers and heifers, ! 6 to 18 months old, £2 to £2 10s ; light unbroken colts and fillies, £5 10a to £9 ; hacks, £10 to £17. j Horses. — No arrivals this week, nor have any ! auction sales been held. We quote heavy draught, j £45 to £50 ; medium, £25 to £35 ; inferior, £15 to £20 ; good hacks and light harness horses, £20 to £25 ; useful, £12 to £15 ; weeds, nominal.
Tho Oamaru Times of the 12th current reports : — Wheat and oats are in good enquiry, but there are no recent transactions of any magnitude to report. Good sample of milling wheat is worth from 5s 3d to 5s 6d. Good feed oats in good enquiry at from 3s 9 d to 4s.
