Times Office, Saturday Evening. The following are the Customs returns for —
By the arrival of the s.s. Tararua, we are in receipt of Melbourne files to the 28fch ult. The ' Argus' of that date has the following commercial article : — In the import markets this forenoon, business was quiet, and the day'B transactions were of an unimportant character. Values i of breadstuff's are steadily maintained ; sales, however, are on a trifling scale. Best brands I of country flour are quitted at £13 10s, and up to £14 is required for town-made flour. Wheat is fiim at 6s 2d to 6s 3d ; there is, however, little offering, and only small parcels can in consequence be placed. Oats are also very firm ; good samples at 4s 2d being wanted. Maize is the turn in favor of sellers ; sales have been made at 4s 3d, and •wo understand a penny more is asked. In liquids, we note the disposal of a shipment of tlie Carlisle Company' 6 bulk ale ; the price paid has not been disclosed, but we understand that a concession on our trade quotation of £8 had to be allowed. A shipment of Worthington's ale, just to hand, has been cleared out on terms withheld. A line of Portland cement was taken up at a bade under I7i. '
