COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Times Office, Saturday Evening. The following are the Cu9toms returns for — Friday, May 14. Whisky, 31 gals £23 12 10 Saturday, May 25. Brandy, 28 gals £16 16 0 ♦ The ' Argus' of the Bth inst. contains the following items of commercial intelligence : — There is little improvement to report in the import markets ; business generally is inactive, and fo ar transaction of importance have been made public. The greatest indifference continues to be exhibited by the trade in regard to flour, and there is more difficulty still experienced in selling small lots than in getting rid of large parcels. A line of a hundred tons offered in the morning at £13 net has since been withdrawn from the m rket for a higher figure. On our trade quotation of £13 10s no change can be quoted. Wheat is wanted, and extreme rates can now be obtained. We hear of a line of 500 bags of fine Victorian having been placed at close on 6a. For oats we note a steady trade demand at 3s B<l to 3s lOd, according to quality ; a parcel of superior Tasmanian was cleared off at 4s. Maize is quoted at 4s 6d. The market is very bare, but as the steamers now due are known to be bringing forward eomo very considerable paresis, it is not expected that "our present quotations will be sustained. In provisions we hear of sales of Yarey's hams at I3d"to 13id. A line of 1,000 cases of kerosene oil — a mixed parcel of Cozzens's, Devoe's, and Downer's — found a purchaser at 2s 3£d. Sales of woolpacks are made at 4s. Candles meet with an inquiry which is by no means general. The Neva Company effect trade sales of their brand at ll£d ; we likewise hear of the disposal of a large line of this brand on terms withheld. Teas of low qualities are sfiifed to be getting more into favor ; several rather large parcels of low congous have changed hands. The cargo of deals, per Britannia, was quitted under the hammer. Deals, 11 x3, from 6ft to 12ft, brought from 4|d to s£d per foot ; 9 x 3, from 6ft to 12ft, realised 4£d to 4 15-16 d. Blackwood in log was sold at 13s 6d per 100 ft. Kartell's pale brandy has been placed at 7s 7£d.
