Chixese L-iwa. — A curious rumour reaches us from Peking. It is reported that the young Emperor was astonished to find one of the chief eunuchs ot the palace smoking opium. The monarch reqested to be allowed to trj a pipe, and the effects were such as might have been expected. While suffering from the sikness consequent on excess, the Queen mother surprised his Imperial Majesty, mid immediately took prompt measures. The ouimeh was beheaded, and a fresh proclamation against the use of the drug was circulated throughout the country. Several copies of the edict have reached Ningpo, and are exciting much attention amougst the natives of that city. — ' Colombo Observer.'
