; METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS IN APRIL, 1869. Genbbax Rekabks. — The weather during April, 1869, was wholly different from that experienced at any other time during the past 10 years. Rain without wind, dull, cloudy weather, without rain, and fog with rain are hardly ever seen in Southland. Yet these have been the characteristics of the - 5 weeks following the equinostial gales. A dead calm has prevailed almost constantly,' with highand steady barometer, mild . temperature, atmosphere saturated ' with moisture, aud all but incessant light drizzling rain, so light indeed that the total of 20 days . fall was only 2 "84 inches, less than that of many j fine months. '* Eleotricity was' inactive j ozone \ greatly in excess of the average, although there i were several instances of antozone toward the j close of the month. There were no 6trong , winds, thunderjheavy rain or snow, hail occurred i ; on the 14th, fog on 2Sth. ■ ; The mean temperature of the air was 50*7 I deg., which is O"8 deg. below the 10 years average j for the same month. The total rainfall was 284 inches, which is, I*os inch less than the average. ; , Barometer.-^ (At 32 deg.
