TENDERS TO LEASE.

The opening of the tenders for the lease Of the Railway traffic on Monday last, was the occasion of much speculation to the commercial public. It was well known that a good many very eligible offers had been sent in, and at the hour appointed for opening the contracts, a good number of those interested had collected about the Government Buildings. The envelopes were opened by the Government, in presence of the contractors. The tenders embraced the lease of the goods, passenger traffic, and the Mail Service on the line, and the wharf at Campbelltown, with the condition of keeping in repair the rolling stock and engines, and to be for a period of twelve or eighteen months. There were sevoa offers received altogether, the successful tenderers being Messrs Nichol and Shearer. The following are the several amounts : — Nichol and Shearer (accepted)— 6l2l2 12s per annum, or £1818 18s for eighteen months. SUPPLEMENTARY. No. 1. — Receiving, hauling, and delivering plant to contractors for the completion of the Oreti Railway, at per ton, 2s. No. 2. — Receiving, hauling, unloading, stacking, and storing where directed, plant from England for the service of the Provincial Government, at per ton, 3s. No. 3. — Hauling and delivering at any point on the Invercargill contract of the Oreti Railway the materials of the Mokomoko branch and goods shed, at per ton, Is. 2f 0 4, — Eeceiving, hauling, unloading, stacking or storing where directed, co.il for tho use of locomotive engines employed in the construction or maintenance of the Oreti Railway, at per ton, 2s. No. 5. — Getting and filling, hauling, tipping, and spreading ballast at per cubic yard, Is. Nye and Onyon, £1880 for eighteen months — No. 1, 3s 6d ; No. 2, 3s 6d ; No. 3, 2s 6d ; No. 4, 4s , No. 5, 3s. J. H. Murray, £900 for eighteen months — No. 1, 3s ; No. 2, 6s ; No. 3, 2s ; No 4, 4s 6d ; No. 5, Is 9d. 0. D.
