VOLUNTEERS FOR THE FLJIS.

The following document has been handed to us (Daily Times) for publication : — L.S. Chief Secretary's Office, Bau, 30th January, 1869. Volunteers as military settlers are hereby invited to enrol themselves into a corps for the purpose of assisting Thackombau, King of Bau, &c, to subjugate the rebellious aud cannibal tribes of the interior of Viti Levu. Each man enrolling must sign a declaration that he will faithfully serve and defend King Thackombau, his heirs and successors, in person, crown, and dignity, against all native enemies, and will observe and obey all orders of King Thackambau, his heirs and successors, and of the European Generals and Officers set over him, until the subjugation of the rebellious and cannibal tribes release him from active service: In consideration of the effective rendering of such service, each volunteer will receive in fee simple a grant of land of an area proportionable to their rank, to be selected by themselves in the distrcts subjugated, provided such selection does not interfere with the Government towns, their occupation and tenure of said grant rendering them liable to the obligations and service of military settlers generally.
