The barque Sampan, sailed from the Bluff yesterday, at 2 p.m., with a full cargo of wool. The P.N.Z. Co's .s.s Egmont, John Vine Hall, Junior, Commander, arrived in port yesterday morning at 10.30 a.m., from Northern Ports ; she left the Queen's wharf, Wellington, at half-past four p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 ; experienced light winds and fine weather as far as Lyttelton, which port was reached at 5 p.m. on the 26th ; left again the next morning at noon lor Port Chalmers, experienced a strong head wind with heavy sea, arriving there at 9 a.m. on the 29 th ; in consequence of the s.s. Ruahine with the Panama mail arriving at Wellington on the 29th, the Phoebe was to have been despatched immediately with the Southern portion, but owing to the bad weather, she was unable to leave till the morning of the 31st. As the Phoebe was to dock on her arrival at Port Chalmers, the Egmont was detained to take on the Southland mail. The Phoebe arrived at 7 a.m. on the 2nd ; and the Egmont left at 2 p.m. She experienced fine weather and light winds up to the time of her arrival as above. Thick weather detained her along the coast ; went half speed all the way.
