AN EXPLANATION.

(TO THE EDITOB CKF THB SOUTHLAND .HHXS). Sir^-I beg to- correct your -statement regarding the regatta, where you say that the course was altered. It was not altered, and another thing the crew of the Kiwi were the mea to say, at one or two meetings before the regatta, that one end of the course should be at the Magazine. It seems .^curious that the course should be altered to one boat out of four. The plain fact of the matter is that the crew of the Kiwi had quite enough of the race, they rounded the flagship on purpose to get clear of the water they had in the boat, and then made a fresh start up the river ; but now they make an excuse by saying the course was altered, trying to get out of it in that way. — Yours, &c, . John M ; Leait. Inyercargul, December 29, 1868.
