HONORNUM TO MEMBERS OF THE
JCJXVJ V J_l* Lllftll UUUII VJ-LJJ. (to the editoe op the southland times.) Sib, — My attention having been called to a statement made by Mr P. Dalrymple, in his place in the Provincial Council, while discussing Dp Monckton's resolution in reference to ' the payment of Members, I trust you will allow me a small 3pace in your paper for the purpose of setting that gentleman and the public right, so far as that statement refers to myself. I find in the " Southland Times" of December 9, that Mr Dalrymple is reported to have said : — " He was not prepared to support the resolution in its present shape. He had drawn his pound a day after learning that Mr Wood, M.H.8,., when a member of the Council, and being no further from tovra than he was, drew his." Sir, I am bound in justice to myself to give this a positive denial.. Neither during the whole time that I had the honor of a seat in the Provincial Council, — a part of which I was also a member of the Executive, and devoted much time to the duties of that office — nor, up to the present moment, have I ever applied for or received one penny in either capa* city, — Your's, &c, William Wood. East Road, December 14th 1868.
