In order to give full reports of the proceedings of the Provincial Council we are obliged to hold over correspondence, leader, locals, &c. At the Eesident Magistrate's Court, on Tuesday, 7th December, Mr M. Cahill, of the Provincial Hotel, wa3 brought up before H. M'Culloch, Esq., E.M., charged with having violently assaulted one John Burke, on the previous evening. From the evidence adduced, ie would appear that a number of men visited that hotel on the night in question, when a disturbance arose that eventuated in the assault, of hich the prisoner was charged. It was stated for the prosecution that the man Burke had een so seriously injured, as to render it necessary for him to be taken to the Hospital, and he was not now in a fit state to appear in Court. A remand for seven days was therefore asked. The remand was granted. Cahill was, on application, admitted to bail. Wa are requested to call attention to an advertisement in another column of Howard's Iron Biscuits. It is stated to be " a new and i nproved method of administering that valuable medicine, Carbonate of Iron." On Monday 7th inst,' an inquest was held, before Dr Deck, Coroner, at the Hospital, on the body of W.Nelson, one of the party who left Fraser's sawmills in Hart's boat, which was capsized while crossing the estuary on Thursday last. A verdict of " drowned by the upsetting of a boat was returned. We understand that all the efforts that have been made to recover the bodies of the Other occupants of the craft have failed, and it is ot now expected they will be, until the ninth day from the accident, when it is hoped they may j be found.
