The Southland Times. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1868.
A special session of the Provincial Council^ will be convened to-day at twelve o'clock. His Honor the Superintendent will open it in person. We believe the principal, if not the only, business to be brought before the Council will be the acceptance of a tender for finishing the railway. The General Government, at the instigation of His Honor, has agreed to sanction the completion of the railway by payments in land, and we must say that the Superintendent is entitled to the thanks of the community for the consistent and successful manner in which he has brought this important undertaking to a close. It now only remains with the Council to endorse the action of His Honor by passing resolutions setting aside the land. We trust that no hair-splitting arguments, or special pleading, will be allowed to interfere with its completion, but that the opinion of the Council will be at once taken on the subject. The people desire that this work should be gone on with, and look to the Government to see that no impediments are thrown in the way of its accomplishment.
