SELECTED POETRY.

DAY BY DAY. Day by day a muffled chime Eclioes through, the Tale of time, Sad as some memoriam rhyme ; Day by day sweet marriage bells Grladden quiet; rustic dells "With their happy runic swells. Day by day a grave is made, Beauty paleth, flowers fade, Silently Sin's debt is paid : . Day by day an heir ia born, Songs salute the happy morn, Beauty smiles and flow'rs adorn. Day by day dark clouds arise, Lightnings quiver from the skies, Thunders mutter strange replies : Day by day God's sun we view, ■Set in broad enamell'd blue, Light dispensing and life too. Day by day new sorrows try, Hands and hearts hang heavily, Helpless souls for helpers cry : Day by day some hidden fount Strengthen us to climb the mount, Mercies come beyond our count. Day by day we sinful rove Brom the iCden of our love, We unfaithful hourly prove : Day by day our God forgives, Our Kedeemer ever lives, Pard'ning whosoe'er believes. Day by day sad weary feet Pace tiie busy crowded street Numb'd with cold or faint with heat- : Day by day glad spirits rise, Inheritors of glory's prize, To the rest beyond the skies. Day by day man's lot below Is to drink the cup of woe Or foretastes of heaven know : Oh ! let each submissive pray, " Lord I am but potter's clay, : Search me, prove me, day by day."
