COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
Times Office, Tuesday Evening. The following are the Customs returns for — Monday, Nov. 16, Brandv. 28 gals £17 010
The ' Argus' of the 10th inst., says : — Nothing of a special nature transpired in the import markets to-day, the engagements of the outgoing mail having had the effect of confining transactions within very narrow bounds. In breadstuffs we note a fair inquiry for trade purposes, flour having been steadily moved off in parcels of ten to twenty tons in a line, a prices ranging, according to brand, from £13 10s. to £14 Wheat likewise commands a good deal more notice, but though inquires have been brisfr, the actual amount of business got through has been very trifling, chiefly owing to the high prices required for Californian. -A line of 2,01)0 bushels of Adelaide was cleared off at 6s. 3d., and for a small lot of Victorian a similar figure was realised. We observe that some 12,000 bushels of Adelaide j wheat will be offered Jbr auction sale to-morrow.
and as the sellers mean business, a rapid clearance of the entire parcel is expected. We are informed that the greater portion of the Rhuddlan Castle's shipment 'of Californian — nearly 20,000 bnshels — has been purchased on Sydney account. Oats are very dull ; parcels of Tasmanian have been offering more freely at 3s. 9d., without finding buyers. Maize is firm at 3s. lid. to 43., the latter for small lots ; but many holders anticipate higher prices to rule in consequence of advanced rates in Sydney. A parcel of linseed oil raw and boiled was placed at 4s. 4d. Kerosene oil meets with inquiry, at Is. 9d. for Oriental, Brilliant, and such brands, and business is pending, but only to a moderate extent, the larger buyers having for the present retired. A line of halves sardines was quitted at Bs. 3d. Tea,3 do not attract much notice, the numerous arrivals now coming to hand having created quite i sensation. The Tycoon, which was reported this forenoon, makes the third cargo within the last five or six days. We understand that the entire cargo of the St. Kilda, recently arrived from Scotland, consisting of oilmen's stores, woolpacks, candles, brandies, &c, will be offered for sale to-morrow. A portion of the Martha Jackson's Patna rice ' will likewise be offered at same time. In liquids we hear of the disposal of pig stout, a free demand being experienced at up to 93. 9d., according to parcels.
