COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
The ' Daily Times,' 4th inst., reports : — In the markets to-day only.a limited demand for miscellaneous goods for actual consumption has gone forward, the expected arrival of the Suez mails sufficing to keep all matters of moment in abeyance. Breadstuff's continue at yesterday's quotations, with an extremely meagre business doing in flour, and nothing in grain transpiring. For sugars there is a maintained inquiry, though stocks are too light to admit of important operations. We note a small line of grey crystals at £36 355, and second white at £39 10s. A few packages of teas have been placed at maintained rates ; but for the next few days, and until the Sampan's cargo has been submitted, transactions will not extend beyond actual necessities. In liquids, there have been sales of Arroll's ale (in glass) at reduced rates, and of Hennessy's brandy (in case) at 27s 6d. A small parcel of hops is reported at Is 9d, and of a better sample — pale complexion — at 2s. A line of old tobaccos, tens, was quitted at 7£d ; and good twists at Is 7d. The cargo of wheats, per Prospector, is understood to be held for 7s, and that a little below that price has been offered and refused. In the auction marts to-day nothing has gone forward of any importance.
