JAPAN.
(From the ' Overland China Mail/ Sept. 18.) A shocking " coolie tragedy " is reported from Hakodate. A vessel appeared at that port with 42 Chinese coolies on board and no Europeans. Every article of foreign manufacture had been, where possible, removed. From internal evidence she appears to have been the " Providenza," an Italian barque, consigned to the Portuguese Consul at Hongkong, which left Macao with a shipload of coolies last Jane. The captain and crew (28 in number) and three hundred and forty coolies are missing. Blood stains abound about the ship. The Netherlands and "U.S. Ministers have been earnestly requested to postpone their visit to Tedo on account of the prevailing disorder. The political situation, is unchanged. All Japanese native newspapers have been stopped by the Kangun (Northern) Grovernment. The American steamer " Kanga no Kami " has been sold to the Prince of Akitas for about $90,000. Yedo is still in a very disturbed state.
