RIVERTON VOLUNTEERS.
(TO THE EDITOR OP THB SOVTHJiASD TOOtS). - Sib— Could you inform me whether there is any likelihood of the volunteers being called from Southland to the front? . as, to my certain knowledge, officers and members of the corps here have been very energetic, both in target practice and drill, morning and evening. Although our commanding officer looks very martial ..... in his appearance of late, and no doubt , they are a fine body of men well up to drill, there is one drawback, they are deficient of uniform altogether, but where the fault lays Ido not know. I hear the capitation money is due again (the third time), when I hope it will be remitted so that they may be enabled to shew as good a front when they meet the Invercargill corps at the Butts— for, a challenge has been received from them. The officers here are about offering a prize of a Cup for our best shot (gold or silver), I cannot just state — either will do. ■ BIVEBTONIAN. ~ Eiverton, Nov. 2nd, 1868. ; ,
