THE ORETI RAILWAY.
(TO THE ED HOB 07 THE SjXTTHIiAKD TIMES.) Sib.—The majority ofthe inhabitants of Southland are without a doubt quite willing to get the Oreti line made this summer. The question is, how to do this; the Government appears to be in a fix, jl would like to suggest for the consideration of hon. members one way to get it finished without any more loss of time ; it appears that the small sum of £12,000 cash will open up 21 miles of country; now if the contractor will please to step into the Land Oflice and pay for 20,000 acres of land, the Government,'. I think would give him a contract, and pay him back this 20,000, as the works progresses; -if this can be arranged the public, I think, would support the Government, for as soon as the works are started, land would sell /ar inland, and the Government would be able to send up lots more road metal from Green Hills.—Tour's, Ac, Nil Despebandttm.
