Brandy, 36 gals £21 12 0 < The "Daily Times," 22nd August reports : — "There has been a rather better feeling in business to-day, though importers' operations are still characterised by an extreme degree of tamenesß. It is not possible to refer to any of the staples a3 being in special inquiry, but miscellaneous parcels to sort up have been more frequent, and a tolerable amount of country orders hare been forwarding. An inquiry is maintained for good sugars and for the better descriptions of congous, and transactions in both are pending. We hear of sales of English malt at a shade below our late quotations ; also of Islay whisky at 5s 6d; Whybrow's pickles at Us 3d ; fine dressed rice, £33 ; hams and bacon (proportions), Is 2d. Kerosene is reported as being moved in small parcels at barely maintained rates. In the market for breadstuffs there is on entire absence of activity ; the demand for flour is trifling:. but on the. other hand, but little wheat is coming forward, and Provincial supplies are scanty ; values in the meantime fairly maintained." »
