WELLINGTON.
(PBOII OTJB OWN COBBEBPOKDENT.) I August 26. [The following telegram was not received until 8 p.m. on th^ evening of. the 27th, in consequence, we are informed, of the wire being down to the north of Canterbury.] There was "a meeting of Fox's supporters held this afternoon. The following members attended: — Messrs Burns, Heaphy, Borlaae, Collins, "Wood, Tancred, Harrison (Wanganni), Studholm, Brandon, W. Taylor, Eeynolds Graham, M'Farlane, Stevens, "Williamson, Cargill, Bolleston, Travers, Macandrew, Yogel, Muir, Pox, and Dillon Bell. The following resolution was unanimously agreed to: —" That this meeting having heard the enunciation of Mr Fox's views, is of opinion that there are such grounds of common agreement amongst those present on the fundamental points of the constitutional relations between the General and Provincial Governments, the state of the public finance, and the question of native policy, as to justify the formation of an organised opposition, under the leadership !of Mr Fox; and this meeting hereby I constitutes itself into a political body, under the name of .the Constitutional party, and hereby unanimously request Mr Fox to accept the position and responsibility of being its chief."
