WELLINGTON.
I (FEOM OUB OWN COBBESPONDENT.) WEECK OF THE S.S. TAEANAKI. August 20th, 9.15 a.m. The Postmaster-Greneral received a telegram last night, statin^that £he~ steamer "Taranaki," had struck the Boat Harbor Eock in Long Channel, twenty miles from Picton. The passengers and crew were landed in safety. It would appear that the vessel lost its propeller, but there are hopes entertained of her yet being got off safely. The accident occurred at 5.30 last night. By the latest accounts received the vessel is being towed up by boats to Bowden's Bay to be stranded on the beach. The Taranaki has seven feet of water in the engine-room, and five aft. The Airedale was despatched this morning from here to render assistance, and bring up the passengers. The vessel is not insured.
