The Oamaru people are thoroughly in earnest in their efforts to get their district proclaimed a county. The ' Oamaru Times' says : — ' The movement for the establishment of County administration in this district, has now assumed a definite shape, and the scheme, as proposed by the Committee and adopted by the recent public meeting, affords, we think, the basis of an equitable arrangement. It is very probable that ifc may be found necessary in drafting a Oamaru County Bill to make some modifications in matters o! | detail ; but we trust that the main features of the scheme will be preserved. The fairness of the proposition that one-third of the revenue derived therefrom should be granted to the County for expenditure in local works, and that some arrangement should be made to refund to it a fair proportion of that nett revenue which has been drawn from it up to the present time is selfevident, andi when the facts and figures of the case are laid before the Assembly, we have no fears as to the issue.
