COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
' ' ' • ; TIME 3 Office, Tuesday Evening. The following are the Customs Returns for — Monday, July 27.
The ' Daily Times,' 25th July, reports : — Business still quiet, and pending receipt of advices, nothing of any consequence goi >g forward. Breadstuffs remain without alteration. Sales to a moderate extent of provincial flour at , Ll9 10:=, large bags. The market is apparently gathering strength. A parcel of galvanised iron, No. 26 guage, is reported as placed at L3O. No transactions in spirits have come under notice, ■ but the bareness of stocks is evident, and a de- : mand at full rates is anticipated. Kerosene in small parcels has been placed at last quotations ; and. malt has been moved in small lots, but holders are disinclined to such a concession in , price as would induce sales of magnitude. By auction, nothing has taken place.
The. "West Coasfc Times " of July 20th reports : — An extremely limited amount of business has been done in the import market during the week, and business generally has been flat and unprofitable, otherwise could not have been expected, considering the state of the weather, which has been for nearly the whole week one incessant' downpour of .rain day and night, unequalled by anything we have in our long residence on the West Coast experienced. Imports have been confined to the assorted cargo of the Ceres, and produce by the Martha and Lavina, principally potatoes, which were partially placed at £6 per ton, a good sample, especially for seed purposes ; produce generally has maintained last quotation. Flour is unaltered in value, and in fact no alteration can be noted in any principal staple ; transactions being too light to test the market; the imports to be received by the Sarah and Mary, now in the roadstead, and other vessels fully due •will, we hope, should the weather be more favorable, gave some impetus to business for, the coming week. .''."..,.. - ■ . ;
