Clyde, Thursday. — Friday's coach from Dunedin arrived last night at 8 o'clock. There has been a heavy fall of snow all over the district, and the ground j at St. Bathan's and Mount Ida, was j covered two feet deep. i ■Wellington, Thursday. — Major M'Donnell has left for Wanganui. Forty men have been enrolled, and will follow in the " Sturt," which then goes on to Auckland for Major Yon Tempsky's company, which consists of 70. Forty more Europeans and 50 Natives will be en-
rolled at Wanganui. Cbomwell, Fi'iday. — Twenty men and two horses are employed by the Government on the roads in the Wakatipu district. The roads are in good winter order. "Wellington", Friday. — Bad news from Patea, a public meeting has been held there, to* invite the settlers to enroll themselves for self-protection. A public meeting has been held at Wanganui, to urge the Government to support Major M'Ponnell, and not to allow any commissioners to interfere. Several chiefs spoke, they said, (?, sarcastically) they would not go and fight at Wee, but would follow the European custom, and go to "Wellington to. consult the Governor. A public meeting at "Wellington last night condemned the new Executive for not closing with Owen, re slip contract. ■
