PENNY READINGS.
! (TO THE EDITOR OF THE SOUTHLAND TIKIS). Sib, — I was glad to perceive that "Mechanic" has opened the discussion of the necessity of raising subscriptions to erect a public hall. I think brie .is : much needed, and that there would be little difficulty in obtaining the funds necessary, if a committe were formed to canvas the town for subscriptions. lam certain the Provincial Council would supplement handsomely the money raised by the public. ' I would also suggest that the co-operation of two most important rbodies — the Masons and Oddfellows should be invited, as the Hall when erected, -would be of great use to them in holding their meetings. In almost every other community the Oddfellows have their Hall, exclusively for their own use, but by joining with the general public in supplementing any funds raised, the Lodges here would practically obtain all the benefits of possessing a hall, without having to bear the whole expense. — I am, Sir, your obedient servant, ] Constant Eeadeb.
