(TO THE EDITOE OP THE SOUTHLAND TIME 3.) Sir, — A local paper commenting on my letter on the subject of Immigration which appeared in your weekly issue of the 23rd inst., states I have preferred a serious charge against a non-political employe, the Immigration Officr. Now as I state in that letter, " I once heard an Immigration officer, &c." I cannot 3ee how I could be supposed to mean the Immigration Officer of Southland, any more that that of any other province, with more than one of whom X am acquainted. I can only say I never conversed with Mr M'Arthur or any other person in the Province on the subject of my scheme prior to my letter to the Superintendent on the subject, read at the last meeting of the Council, nor was I aware that any similar scheme had been discussed in Canada. So far as the Immigration Officer of Southland is concerned, I believe he has fulfilled his duties impartially and energetically. — I am, Sir, your's, &c, Waltek H. Peabsoit. Invercargill, May , 1868.
