Hokitika, 22nd May. — Seven prisoners found guilty of rioting and were recommended to mercy, excepting Larkin and Manning. All were sentenced to a fine of £20 each, or a month's imprisonment. Larkin and Manning pleaded guilty to the charge of seditious libel, and were each sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Satisfaction is felt at the leniency of the sentences. Mr Ireland is to be entertained by the members of the bar at a dinner to-day. The judge paid him a compliment by saying, that " no defence of Fenians at home had approached his in the present instance in ability." "Wellingtok, Thursday. —Mr "Watt has resigned his seat in the Assembly as representative of Eangitikei, in favor of Mr Eox.
