POPULATION OF CANTERBURY.
For the following return of the population of Canterbury' at the last Census, we are indebted to the "Press" : —
The male portion of the population exceeds that 7of the female by 12,310. Deducting the "Westland District from the total return, we find that the population of the plains .amounts to 38,310, consisting of 21,199 males and 17,111 females, and showing an excess of males over females of only 4088. The proportion of the population who are married are— Males, 864-1; females, 7976. Unmarried—Males, 29,993; females, 12,196 ; widowers, 460; and widows, 533. The remainder are not specified.
