INTRODUCTION OF SALMON.

We have to report the pleasing fact that the Acclimatisation Society has taken active steps to erect salmon ponds at Wallacetown, on'the banks of the river Makerewa, situate about nine miles from Invercargill. From the report of the Engineer itis expected that the ponds will be completed in a few weeks. As soon as they are finished, application will be made to Tasmania and Otago for a supply of ova. It is intended gradually to stock the .Rivers Makerewa, Oreti, and Waiau. We hope therefore shortly to be in a position to report the successful result of the introduction of salmon into Southland rivers.
