VICTORIA.
(From the Southland Times, April 20.) Up to the departure of the Omeo from Melbourne, no material change had taken place in the position of political parties in Victoria. Mr Kiddle, who wa» sent for by His Excellency the Governor to form an Administration, after more than a week's labor, gave up the task in despair. Mr SiiADEN was next communicated with, but with what result is not explained. Meanwhile meetings in favor of the M'Culloch Ministry were being held all over the country, and the question of Separation from the Mother Country, if the demands of the Assembly .are not complied with, freely discussed. The Duke of Buckingham has been designated by some of the speakers as |a " bloated aristocrat," " haughty tyrant," &c, and the public servants and contractors have been informed that they cannot obtain a settlement of their claims until the Appropriation Act has become law. Mr Sladen, we learn, requires another appeal to the country, but the G-overnor refuses to comply with the demand. Altogether, matters aie in a bad state in the sister colony, and if mutual forbearance and concession is not adopted by both sides, the most serious results may be anticipated.
