Owing to the disturbed state of the Buller district, it has been deemed advisable by the Government to despatch thither a contingent of the Armed Constabulary Corps, stationed in Hokitika with a view of strengthening the hands of the local authorities. In consequence of this determination, forty rank arid file, under the command of Capt. Cumming and Sub-Inspector M'Donnell, left Hokitika oh the 14th inst. by the steamer Bruce — chartered by Government for the purpose. The polling for the election of a member for the Westland County Council, in place of Mr Bonar, has resulted as follows : — Carey, 52 j Bright, 42. '
