POLITI CAL— GENERAL.
Since the despatch oi the mail by Suez route, -but 'little change has taken place in the aspect of political, matters. The G-eneral Assembly is expected 1 tomeet in June, and the question of abolishing Provincialism will again crop up. It is, however, very probable that owing to the internal dissensions of .the Provincialist party, amongst which, may be ranked— in one or two of the Provinces — the Separationists, the Centralists will gain some advantage. A good deal will depend upon the success of Mr Fitzher- J bert, who is at preaent in London, endeavoring to negotiate the New Zealand Joan in a consolidated form. If he is. successful iv his mission, it will be an , additional argument in favour of the unity of the Colony^ Meanwhile, signs are not wanting to show that the coming session of the New Zealaud Parliament will be one of the most important that has been held since the foundation of the : Colony. s , .-r t
