THE BISHOP OF DUNEDIN.
At a meeting of the Invercargill Vestry, held 19th July, 1867, the followresolutions were passed : — 1. That though we have been always opposed to the formation of the new See, we have been informed that Dr. Jenner has been accepted as our Bishop by a vote of a meeting of the Eural Deanery Board, held at Dunedin, 23rd February, 1867. 2. That we are sorry that the Bishop of Dunedin should have taken part with a very extreme section of the Church of England whose ceremonies are considered legally questionable. 3. That we cannot be in any way responsible for the election of a Bishop of extreme opinions, who might disturb the Church by the agitation of questions which have not yet arisen. 4 That we think that Dr. Jenner should be informed about the character of thought and tone of feeling which exist here, that he may be able to judge whether he can be one in intention and sympathy with those who are working in the Church, as it has been already established.
