"Wellington, Monday. New Zealand Steam Navigation Co.'s meeting this afternoon decidedly opposed to winding up. Government are to be requested to adopt English Company's Act, permitting reduction of capital with the view of declaring a dividend. Thereon the meeting adjourned for one month, to decide future course. Mra Robson, late of Dunedin, committed suicide this morning by cutting her throat. . Verdict — temporary insanity. Dtjnedin, Tuesday. Mr Thomas Birch was elected Mayor yesterday.
